Divine Mercy Konkani Krist Sabha was formed on 3rd December 2009, the feast of St. Francis Xavier with six members from the Divine Mercy Parish. Fr. Henry Almeida was the main celebrant for this feast Mass.
The main aim of this community was to keep the Konkani culture and tradition alive and active and create a feeling of ‘Home away from Home’. From a small committee of 5 to 6 people, today this has grown to 16 to 18 active committee members.
Since many Konkani speaking parishioners of Divine Mercy Church had to visit the neighboring parishes to attend Mass in Konkani, Divine Mercy Parish started a bi-monthly Konkani Mass on March 22, 2014. Looking at the overwhelming response of the faithful, under the support and guidance of Rev. Fr. Roque Alphonso, the then Parish Priest, the Mass is celebrated on the 2nd Sunday of every month.
With the grace of Divine Mercy and Mother Mary, the new committee celebrates three major annual events apart from the monthly Sunday Konkani Mass.
- Full day Konkani Lenten Retreat during the season of Lent.
- Monti Fest (Nativity of Blessed Virgin Mary) in September.
- Francis Xavier Feast – Celebrated in December.
Divine Mercy Konkani Krist Sabha’s great achievement was in organizing the Lenten Retreat for four successive years in a row.
On 5th December 2017, St. Francis Xavier Feast was celebrated by Rt. Rev. Bishop Thomas Dabre, who emphasized the unity and integration of various communities within society. During this Mass a group of around 25 Konkani speaking lectors were commissioned by Rt. Rev. Bishop Thomas Dabre. This was followed by a cultural program and fellowship meal. The main attraction of this cultural program was, relaying a short documentary on the Life of St. Francis Xavier.
We are grateful to De Nobili and SVD Brothers who have constantly supported the Konkani Choir in making the celebration more prayerful and meaningful.
Needless to say, we the members of Diving Mercy Konkani Krist Sabha, sincerely thank Fr. Malcolm Sequeira (Parish Priest) and Fr. Vivek Salve (Assistant Parish Priest), who are the pillars of Divine Mercy Parish, for extending their full support and co-operation in our spiritual journey.
