Ripples In The Ocean Of Mercy

O give thanks to the LORD, for He is good, for His steadfast love endures for ever. – Psalm 136:1

What an awesome privilege to be part of the Decennial Jubilee of Divine Mercy Church! My appointment in Divine Mercy Church is a sheer matter of God’s grace. When Bishop Thomas Dabre asked me to go to Divine Mercy Church from June 2016, I instantaneously accepted this appointment as that was the Jubilee Year of Mercy. God has blessed me to be in His Church which is a symbol of His mercy, where through the Door of Mercy; the faithful would receive special indulgences and graces.

Soon I discovered that the people in Divine Mercy Parish are amazing, kind, active, helpful and enthusiastic. To mark the Year of Mercy, the proposal of conducting a Mercy Convention with the help of Pune Service Team was welcomed by them with joy. Mercy Convention conducted on 4th and 5th November 2016 brought thousands of faithful to experience God’s abundant mercy and also pass through the Door of Mercy. Parishioners sincerely worked hard day and night.

It’s an open secret that the Ursuline Sisters in their generosity donated the land to build this Church. Fr. George D’Souza, the first priest appointed to scout possibilities of constructing a Church did a marvellous job. In his own style, he got genuine and generous help from people to build the Church which was inaugurated by Bishop Valerian D’Souza on 21st June 2008.

‘Church is not merely a structure or a building but it is a community of people where love, unity and a sense of belonging prevails’. Fr. Julien Misquitta, the first Parish Priest of Divine Mercy Church successfully achieved this by getting more people involved in various activities of the Parish. The next Parish Priest appointed was Fr. Roque Alphonso who continuing the good work begun by his predecessors and paved the way to celebrate the decade by helping people growing in their faith and spirituality.

The baton was handed over to me to carry forward the noble works of the Parish. I began with my limitedness trusting in the abundant mercy of God. I believe firmly in the saying, ‘you do your best and leave the rest to the Lord’. It works! It really works!! Therefore I honestly confess, whatever I have done in these past two years, it’s only because of the grace, mercy and blessings of the Lord who sent many helping hands, generous people and angels to guide me and assist me. The strong support of Fr. Vivek, Sr. Rita, Sr. Rekha, Sr. Betty and the Ursuline Sisters from Shanti Ashram community made my burden light and joyful.

These are memorable ripples in the ocean of Divine Mercy Parish. Hence, it is important and essential to preserve them and pass on the history from one generation to the next. What better occasion than celebrating the 10th Jubilee Year of the Church to put all these realities together and hand them over to the younger generation? The idea of publishing a Souvenir bloomed from this thought. A Committee was formed and the work began instantly. It was tough but ‘nothing is impossible’, with this confidence we launched into the deep. It’s been a remarkable journey where at different destinations numerous people boarded with overwhelming interest to share their God given gifts and talents.

Publication of दयासागर” – “Ocean of Divine Mercy” is possible because of many hands working together. I remain grateful to the Souvenir Committee for their dedicated and intense involvement in writing articles, interviewing people, photography, editing, collecting advertisements and attending frequent extensive meetings. I thank Anita Printers for exquisitely designing and printing this Souvenir. Many have worked behind the curtain who believe in the words of Jesus, “do not your left hand know what your right hand is doing” (Mt 6:3). Finally I express my gratitude to those who gladly contributed by sharing valuable messages, information, articles and advertisements.

I invoke God’s blessings on each one of you:

 “The LORD bless you and keep you;
the LORD make his face shine upon you,
and be gracious to you;
the LORD lift up his countenance upon you,
and give you peace.”

 Num. 6:24-26

(The Name of God is Mercy)
